Registration

Danville Public Schools’ Preschool Program is a part of the Virginia Preschool Initiative and is  a free, high-quality program that prepares little learners for kindergarten. Our program features certified teachers and fun early learning experiences, including music, art, library, indoor centers, and outdoor playtime. Breakfast and lunch and transportation are provided. Space is limited, apply early!

Grade Level: Pre-Kindergarten (3 & 4-year-olds by September 30 of the current school year)

Location: Grove Park (1070 S Main Street) and Northside (121 Gloucester Avenue)

•  Children who turn five years old by September 30th of the current school year may enter kindergarten.

• Families who speak a language other than English should start the registration process at the DPS Central Offices at 220 Cleveland Street Danville, Virginia 24541.
   

• Central Office provides:

  • Registration assistance

  • Registration documents translated into our primary languages

  • Interpretation services through the registration process and throughout a student’s education in DPS

  • Connecting the family and student with their school to assist with the language assessment

     

• There is no deadline for registration; however, parents are encouraged to register early.
• All registration and health requirements must be met for a child to be enrolled.
• Families of students in grades 6-12, please review the acceleration policy and regulations. This is crucial for families of students who have taken high school courses in middle school.

Choice schools and programs offer specialized instruction as an alternative to the designated zoned school. Interested students must complete an online application during a specific time period.

New DPS families interested in applying to a choice school are encouraged to register for their zoned school.

• If space in a choice school is offered to a family the registration documentation provided will be transferred to the choice school.

Contact 434-799-6400 or records@mail.dps.k12.va.us prior to registration if:

• Enrolling a child for whom you are not the Parent or Legal Guardian
• Student is an unaccompanied minor
• Student is being placed by Social Services
• Student is 18 or over

Danville Public Schools offers families the option to request a transfer to another school within the district, based on available space and school designation. This process is separate from the Choice Program application.

If you would like your child to attend a school other than their zoned school, complete the transfer application and submit it to the Chief of Schools.

Important Reminders

• Transfers are only approved if space is available in the requested school and grade.
• Families must provide their own transportation for the entire duration of the transfer.
• If a student does not enroll in the approved school by the first week of school, the transfer will be canceled.
• Parents/guardians will be notified of the decision by May 1, 2026.
