Student Health
School Nurse's Role
The School Nurse administers all medications, including injections, to students; monitors blood sugar levels; maintains the school’s medicine log; and performs other duties as assigned. Daily contact is made with students, teachers, parents and administrators.
Essential Functions
- Provides first aid service to students and faculty.
- Attempts to determine extent of injuries and takes appropriate action, whether it be on-the-spot first aid or referral to another health agency.
- Provides counseling and referral services for students with special needs.
- Provides instruction in areas of personal hygiene and disease prevention.
- Requisitions supplies and equipment as needed.
- Assumes responsibility for inventory and safe storage of all departmental supplies.
- Maintains confidential records on services provided for students and staff.
- Performs housekeeping duties in the department to insure high standards of sanitation.
